About the Armed Forces Covenant

The Armed Forces Covenant is a promise from the nation that those who serve or served in the Armed Forces and their families, are treated fairly and not disadvantaged in their daily lives

ARMED FORCES COVENANT

Civic and community leaders pledged their support for their local Armed Forces at the signing of the Armed Forces Covenant on 2 December 2011.  

The district has a long tradition of cooperation between its civilian community and local armed forces. The signatories represented all aspects of service and civilian communities and demonstrated the strong desire from everyone to work together. 

These included the:

  • 1st battalion Royal Gurkha Rifles;
  • Royal British Legion;
  • Royal Air Forces Association;
  • the Soldiers Sailors and Air Forces Families Association (SSAFA);
  • Burma Star Association;
  • Normandy Veterans Association;
  • Folkestone Sports Centre;
  • Kent County Council;
  • Folkestone Town Council; and,
  • Channel Chamber of Commerce.

Subsequently a number of other town and parish councils have joined the Covenant.

The Council armed forces champion is Councillor Hollingsbee.
