17/07/2019 - Strange Cargo ref: 2008    Recommendations Approved

The grant will contribute towards artist time and materials to deliver sculptural lantern making workshops in secondary schools in Cheriton.  A contribution towards the cost of projection manager time for arranging the programme, event and workshops will also be included.

Decision Maker: Ward Member for Cheriton (3)

Decision published: 14/08/2019

Effective from: 17/07/2019

Decision:

To provide funding of £1000 to the above project.

Reason for decision:

Cheriton Light Festival has put Cheriton onto the cultural map.  The beneficiaries are the people of Cheriton, who gain a cultural event for their town which is unique to the community and which strives to involve and include as many opportunities for participation in the event as possible.  The event has also influenced the region, as a number of light festival events are beginning to appear in other places across Kent.  The event offers employment to local people and creative practitioners and brings in resources to Strange Cargo to contribute to their sustainability which will provide benefits to the district, as the company is an active contributor to creative projects across the district.

Folkestone Trawler Race – Security Guards for the weekend’s event.

Decision Maker: Ward Member for Folkestone Harbour (2)

Decision published: 17/07/2019

Effective from: 05/07/2019

Decision:

To provide funding of £164.00 to the above project.

Reason for decision:

The community need is for us to support our fisherman and keep our traditions going. By holding this event its reminds us that we have a working harbour and we should come down and support our fisherman and shop locally for fresh fish – if we don’t use it we could lose it – which would be such a tragedy for our town – our history is steeped around the harbour area. This is a historic event that needs to be maintained, it represents us and our town.

04/07/2019 - Folkestone Youth Project - Natural Curiosity ref: 1994    Recommendations Approved

Natural curiosity - we want to establish natural science sessions where young people will learn to look closely at the environment around them and learn amazing things that can be done with nature such as dying fabrics and producing art. It will also encourage young people to take part in science based activities and compliments our other work onsite.

To add a new activity to our current opportunities for young people aged 10 -20 years. Young people will use Our Urban Wilderness space to look at natural science and nature. We aim to ignite an interest in both and to use these sessions as a basis for supporting young people. Young people will use the plants they have grown and find onsite and do science based activities such as using microscopes to look closely at structure or producing plants for natural dying. They can also produce artworks influenced by their investigations which we would like to exhibit to the local community.

To provide funding of £529.96 to the above project.

Reason for decision:

We have a long established history of supporting young people in this area. Our project is based in an area of need and many of our young people need the opportunity for free, safe activities that help them to improve social skills and also help their emotional and physical development. Although in its early stages our young people are enjoying exploring our outside space. They have taken photographs, dried flowers and have expressed an interest to doing other work. Some of our young people are regularly excluded from education and not receiving introduction to science.

Decision Maker: Ward Member for New Romney (1)

Decision published: 08/07/2019

Effective from: 08/07/2019

We also like to offer them the chance to take part in various activities together, some of which can be done with a screen and projector. We also like to offer talks and presentations on all sorts of topics that they enjoy. We also have several other groups who use the centre and require the use of a projector and screen. We would also take the items to give presentations around the Marsh to interested Parties.
