Burials plots

Depending on space and availability, you can reserve grave space for future use

How it works

Buying grave space gives an exclusive right to burial.

This gives the purchaser the right to say who can be interred in that grave, be it a burial or interment of ashes. This right currently lasts for 100 years.

When you buy space you get a Deed of Grant to prove you have this right. This document should be kept safely as it will be required to demonstrate ownership upon any future use of the grave.

Memorial rights

By purchasing grave space, you can also apply for permission to erect a memorial on the plot or add inscriptions to an existing memorial.

You cannot do this if a grave is unpurchased.

Ashes plots

At New Romney and Lydd cemeteries, you can reserve plots used exclusively for the interment of ashes, the price of which includes the first use of the grave plot.

Future use of purchased grave space

When it comes to future use of the grave plot for either a burial or interment of ashes, you'll need to pay the appropriate digging fees or ashes interment fee and complete a notice of interment, returning it to the address on the form at least 3 working days before the interment date.
