Decision Maker: Ward Member for Walland and Dengemarsh (2)

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Purpose:

Enhancing Security – This project has arisen due to a museum burglary in August 2018 causing extensive damage to one building perimeter door and three display cabinets resulting in a number of irreplaceable donated artefacts being stolen.  Advice has been sought and it has been recommended to fit steel covers over the four existing building doors and completely replace two doors with steel doors and frames.

Decision:

To provide funding of £500 for the above project.

Reason for decision:

The museum is operated and managed by volunteers who clean, renovate and move the museum forward so that it continues to appeal to all age groups.  It is open to the public from Easter to October.  It is a place where people can feel part of and form friendships.  It gives members and visitors a sense of belonging and creates interest for children with its hands on flight assimilator, radios and engineering experiences which could potentially develop career paths.

During the winter months volunteers work at the museum renovating the building and refreshing exhibits ready for opening the following season.   The museum is home to hundreds of artefacts donated by local families.
