Purpose:

Girlguiding New Programme Resources Start Up - Girlguiding UK have developed a new ongoing programme to meet the needs of today’s girls and young women, building on our heritage and bringing Girlguiding into the modern world.

New programme resources have been developed for the volunteers to deliver the new programme to the Brownies aged 7-10 years.

Girls will be encouraged to work towards the following subjects:

· Know myself: local history, my rights

· Express myself: communication, innovation

· Be well: grow your own, first aid

· Have adventures: archaeology, Space

· Take action: charities, speaking out, zero waste

· Skills for my future: inventing, live smart

All these subjects lead to up to 18 individual badges and up to 24 group activity badges.

Girls require individual new books.

Leaders also require a copy of the book and laminated resource cards for repeated use over the next

10+ years for new girls who join every term.

The Project is to purchase these new resources.

Decision:

To provide funding of £105 to the above project.

Reason for decision:

The new dynamic programme will inspire a new generation of parents to become involved in either becoming volunteer leaders or helping their girls to ‘empower themselves to make a difference, and to use their voice (at home, school and in the community) to help our community and the wider world.

The programme deals with topics such as:

· understand their local area: to see where changes are needed

· be a better person in the community: one good turn leads to another, involvement to help

others make a difference, influence their friends (and their family) of the need for change,

recognise unfairness and develop team working skills

· be a better person locally and for the planet: trash fashion to recycle and reuse, zero waste; learn about renewable energy, endangered species and understand food webs.
