Purpose:

Cheriton Mind Shop Connection –

The Mind shops for Folkestone and District Mind have been a fixture of the Cheriton High Street for some time now and as well as offering a wonderfully eclectic range of donated goods, it also gives us a chance to employ local volunteers of all ages and wellbeing, and an opportunity to speak to local people about the range of services that we offer to help them with their own mental health problems.

We have a number of challenges facing the shop, and beyond just access and storage for donations – the biggest challenge we are currently facing is that of entering the modern age, being able to connect the shops to our main resource centre, to promote our shops online, and to be able to take card payments for goods and donations.

Decision:

DECISION:

To provide funding of £ 500  to the above project.

Reason for decision:

At the moment we have no facility for communicating between our hubs and our main resource centre. We cannot promote our shop goods online and we can only take cash payments – we have no facility for card payments. As more and more people are moving to being cashless, this is risking damaging our long-term viability, employment and service offering.
