Charivari Day 2019 – Strange Cargo will be using the funding for a team of artists to work with groups of adults with learning difficulties at The Shed in Hythe to design and build a large backpack Charivari carnival costume. Shed staff will also be invited to Strange Cargo’s teachers masterclass at the beginning of June 2019. The Shed group will come along to Charivari day and take part in the carnival parade with children and families from across the District on Saturday 6 July.

To provide funding of £500 to the above project.

Reason for decision:

The event has become an embedded tradition for Folkestone, a colourful, fun and entertaining carnival and music programme that attracts thousands of local people and visitors. It is a rites of passage for the young people taking part who learn new skills and meet new people. We have teachers, artists and parents involved in Charivari now that were children in previous events, which is a wonderful legacy for everyone involved.
