Reason for decision:

The main aim of the community group is to enhance the appearance and appeal of

New Romney by creating and maintaining horticultural/floral displays in various sites

making the town brighter and more welcoming for residents and visitors. The focus of attention will be the High St, the main hub of the town, and in future years other key sites around the town. The project also aims to bring interested members of the

community together, all ages and abilities, working together to achieve this main aim

and developing a sense of respect and understanding for one another and a pride in

their town and its environs.

Having horticultural displays in the High Street will make it more colourful and

welcoming for residents, businesses and visitors, a more inviting place to enjoy and

stay longer It will - encourage visitors to stop and explore what the town and its

businesses have to offer ie cultural heritage, cafes, restaurants, pubs and other retail

outlets. - help support other initiatives aimed at improving the High St environment

benefiting residents, businesses and visitors - encourage businesses to set up in the

High St improving the local economy. - be a community activity appealing to all ages

and abilities. - bring people together, working together and respecting other abilities

and differences - improve health and well-being - create a pride in the Town and its

appearance - help to address anti-social behaviour - increase tourism, footfall on the

High St and increased business for traders Although Covid19 brought the project to a standstill two public meetings had produced a membership of around 24 residents

from which a committee of 7 members was formed, and a presentation to the town

council garnered full support.
