Decision Maker: Ward Member for Hythe (3)

Purpose:

Refurbishment of 'Cinque Ports' information panel - The refurbishment of a tourist information panel.

Decision:

To provide funding of £150 to the above project.

Reason for decision:

For many years, a tourist information panel describing the role and importance of

Hythe as a Cinque Port stood on Marine Parade, Hythe, where it was enjoyed by local residents and visitors alike. The panel blew down in 2019 and, since then, several residents have expressed concern at its absence and have asked for reassurance that the panel will be repaired and reinstalled. It has not been possible to trace the original installers of the panel but Hythe Civic Society feels that the information it imparts is of great interest to both local people and to visitors, increasing their understanding of the town and thus making it worthy of restoration. The text appearsin English, French, German and Dutch which is a great advantage. It is the intention of Hythe Civic Society to arrange for the repair and restoration of the panel and to ensure that, once replaced, it constitutes a useful, and handsome, addition to the seafront.

The panel has been missed by several local residents and they have asked when it will be reinstated.
