Purpose:

Hythe Green Woodland Walk - Specialist support and materials fully to develop a woodland pathway for recreational purposes; specifically native tree saplings, hazel shrubs, woodland flowers, coppicing and project oversight.

Decision:

To provide funding of £900 to the above project.

Reason for decision:

Hythe Green is a well-used and valued space. It serves as a regular meeting and recreational place for residents and visitors and has an extremely broad appeal across all ages with very young children and families using the enclosed play area, teenagers making use of the wider Green and dog-walkers, runners and shoppers all regularly to be seen. It serves as a key contributor in Hythe to the health, both physical and mental, of local people.

Voluntary group activities in maintaining the Green attract strong support – a recent appeal to help cut ivy and plant native hedging whips brought out a number of local people. The Hythe Green Preservation Society has over 200 members on its facebook page and the Society is extremely active in maintaining and enhancing the Green, enjoying strong and popular local support.

The proposed woodland walk has already attracted approval across a broad range of ages with a growing number of people starting to make use of the newly opened areas.
