Decision details

St Eanswythes School PTFA

Decision Maker: Ward Member for East Folkestone (2)

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Purpose:

Counselling hut - Part funding towards a counselling hut. This grant would also

enable us to access other grants which ask for joint funding.

Decision:

To provide funding of £500 to the above project.

Reason for decision:

At present we have children having to leave school to be taken to counselling-this means they are missing out on education. It also means at time that a member of staff has to take them if carers are unable-i.e –do not have transport. This is inefficient as when this happens the rest of the class miss out on educational

support.

We are willing for the counselling hut to be used after school hours for other schools who need to access a counsellor. We are happy to allow the hut to be used for meetings for community groups after school hours. Currently our playground is being used by the council for the food bank operating throughout the holidays.

The playground is also used for parking by community groups.

We have been approached by the Youth Hub in Grace Hill prior to the pandemic who want outside space for their young people. This would be an excellent resource –to have access to outside activities plus a private outdoor space where any issues arising could be dealt with.

Since talking with the Hub they would still be interested in this space but are believing Kent is finding alternative premises for them with outside space. However if they could use our space which is on their doorstep this would make excellent sense. They could also access the community hall-The Woodward Hall should weather be inclement.
