Purpose:
The SEND Centre
The SEND Centre will provide support and advice to families of children
with SEND to gain an understanding of how to help their child and
navigate a complex system to get the right support.
Decision:
To provide funding of £979.87 to the above project.
Reason for decision:
Every year our Study Programme enrol 25 young people (16-19) for whom mainstream education has not worked. They are damaged, socially, emotionally and educationally because they did not get the right help. In this year's cohort only three have an Education Health & Care Plan (EHCP). Sixteen should have, so thirteen young people have experienced a combined school life of 143 years without
getting the right support; support that they are legally entitled to. We have seen a steady increase in the number of parents coming to us for informal SEND advice and support so know there is demand and we are known to local parents. We will work with Romney Marsh SEND Talk Facebook page (73 parents registered) schools and community groups to ensure that people know about this service.
