This report reviews the current position of the Folkestone Indoor Bowls (FIB) club, Cheriton Road Folkestone and considers two offers that have been received for the site from national budget supermarket chains.

The report reviewed the current position of the Folkestone Indoor Bowls (FIB) club, Cheriton Road Folkestone and considered two offers that had been received for the site from national budget supermarket chains.

 

The Overview and Scrutiny Committee had considered the report at their meeting held on 27 February 2018. Their comments had been circulated to Cabinet Members at the meeting.

 

Proposed by Councillor Peall,

Seconded by Councillor Godfrey; and

 

RESOLVED:

1.    That C/17/79 be received and noted.

2.    That thanks be given to the officers for bringing forward details of the offers. However, given the council’s current policy position in relation to health and wellbeing and social inclusion, and the current success of the bowls club, that these offers be rejected.

 

(Voting figures: 9 for, 0 against, 0 abstentions).

 

Councillor Pascoe was not present in the Boulogne room for the consideration of this item.

 

REASONS FOR DECISION:

Cabinet was asked to consider the two offers that have been made for the Indoor Bowls Club site as significant value could be unlocked to fund important Council projects.

 

Following the consideration of this item, the Cabinet Members returned to the Council Chamber, and the meeting resumed in open session.
