Hackney Carriage Fares

This report considers changes in the Hackney Carriage Fares. The maximum fare that Hackney Drivers can charge whilst they are working in the District is set by the Council. The last fare increase was made in 2012. The Council has received representations from local taxi trade requesting an increase to the maximum taxi fares.

Resolved:

1.      To receive and note Report DCL/22/15.

2.        To approve the proposed increase in taxi fares and for the fares to go out for public consultation.

3.         If no objections are received, for the new fares come into force at   end of consultation.

4.         If objections are received the Committee would review the objections and publish the fees with or without modifications at their discretion.

The planning officer gave a verbal update informing that the plan in respect of parking (3.7 in the report) had been updated and formed part of the presentation slides.

 

He informed that one additional representation had been received raising issues already covered within the report.

To defer the application for the reason that the scale and layout is unacceptable and constitutes over-development of the plot in a manner harmful to highway safety and amenity, and that officers work with the applicant to come back with an amended scheme.

The following statement was read out by the Chairman:

 

“Dear Councillors, In the last few days you will have received strongly worded correspondence from a certain individual who objects to this application.

 

The individual has made serious unfounded allegations in relation to officers and about the handling of this application as a whole. I would like to inform you that as far as I am aware there is no evidence of fraud and substance to the allegations he has submitted.

 

As the Chair of the Planning and Licensing Committee I regard the comments made as unfounded/unpleasant allegations against council officers in the course of discharging their duties.

 

I would ask you to disregard these allegations and base your decision on the information before you and on planning merits only”.

 

The planning officer informed members that a further 8 objections had been received but all the issues raised are already covered within the report.
