Shining a spotlight on community groups

A new website being set up by Folkestone & Hythe District Council's community team aims to shine a spotlight on the district's many groups and organisations.

Spotlight is an online directory that aims to list the hundreds of activities and services available to people in Folkestone and Hythe, and the surrounding areas of the Romney Marsh and North Downs.

The site will act as a one-stop shop for local services and events, bringing people together with the activities and groups they are looking for. Listing a group or service is completely free, and organisations who sign up before the full site is launched will be entered into a draw to win £200 for their group.

Cllr Jenny Hollingsbee, Cabinet Member for Communities, said it would be a useful resource for residents and professionals alike to tap into.

We are fortunate to have many excellent groups and organisations across the district, offering everything from play sessions for toddlers to tea parties for pensioners.
But it can be hard to find information on the abundance of help, support, services and activities that are available, and that is where Spotlight will come in.
We hope to strengthen communities by linking people with the various groups and activities and providing all the information they need in one place. Cllr Jenny Hollingsbee, Cabinet Member for Communities

The initial site was launched this week and allows groups to list their details for free. The full site will be completed in a few weeks, when people will be able to search for local groups.
