Building Safety Levy

Important Notice: Building Safety Levy Implementation - October 2026

From 1 October 2026, the Building Safety Levy will apply to qualifying residential developments in England. This levy is designed to support building safety remediation and protect leaseholders from associated costs.

  • Applies to developments of 10 or more dwellings
  • Calculated per square metre of gross internal area, including communal spaces.
  • Exemptions include affordable housing, care homes, and smaller developments.
  • Payment must be made to the local authority before the final building control certificate is issued.
