Warm Homes Plan

The Warm Homes Plan (2026 - 2030) is the UK Government’s biggest ever programme to improve home energy efficiency. It aims to cut bills, reduce fuel poverty, and support clean, affordable heating. By 2030, the plan will upgrade 5 million homes, help 1 million families, and create over 180,000 green jobs.

Boiler Upgrade Scheme

The government is expanding the Boiler Upgrade Scheme to help with clean heating:

  • £7,500 for heat pumps
  • £2,500 for air to air heat pumps and heat batteries
  • £5,000 for rural biomass systems

How to access this funding: Homeowners choose an MCS certified installer, get a quote, and the installer applies for the grant on your behalf. The grant is then taken off your total cost automatically.

Low and Zero Interest Loans

A new £2 billion loan scheme will help households pay for:

  • Solar panels
  • Home batteries
  • Insulation
  • Heat pumps

How to access

When the scheme launches, you will be able to apply through participating banks and lenders, with government support keeping repayments low.

Lower Energy Bills for All

From April 2026, all households will receive an average £150 reduction in energy bills, alongside cheaper electricity and flexible smart tariffs.

Support for Low Income Homes

Over £5 billion will fund upgrades for households most in need. Local authorities and social landlords will deliver improvements such as:

  • Solar panels
  • Insulation
  • Batteries
  • Heat pumps

How to access

You won’t need to apply yourself. Eligible households will be contacted through local grant programmes or through your social landlord. From 2027, a new neighbourhood based scheme will target the coldest homes automatically.

Support for Renters & New Homes

  • Private landlords must upgrade homes to EPC Band C by 2030 and can use grants to help meet this.
  • Social housing will also be upgraded nationally.
  • From 2026, all new homes must include low carbon heating, high energy efficiency, and solar panels as standard.
