Preparing for bad weather

In and around the home

  • ensure your water tank, loft, and external water pipes are well insulated
  • purchase useful winter equipment e.g. de-icer, snow shovel, grit
  • get together with neighbours to clear footpaths and community areas
  • check on elderly and vulnerable neighbours


Get a  free flu vaccination


  • consider whether you really need to make that journey
  • before you leave on your travels,  do check the Highways England live traffic information
  • tell somebody when you expect to arrive and the route you plan to take
  • put together a winter car kit
