Gambling premises licences, gaming machine permits, other gambling permits

The Gambling Commission issue operating licences for gambling, as well as regulating remote gambling ( including online gambling).

We issue licences and permits for premises where gambling takes place. This includes betting shops, bingo premises, casinos , amusement arcades and pubs and clubs that have gaming machines.

The Regulation of Gambling has three objectives:

  • preventing gambling from being a source of crime or disorder, being associated with crime or disorder or being used to support crime;
  • ensuring that gambling is conducted in a fair and open way; and
  • protecting children and other vulnerable persons from being harmed or exploited by gambling

Our  Gambling Statement of Principles April 2022-2025 (PDF, 634.54KB) provides further information about the types of licences we issue and our approach to dealing with applications.

When you make an application for a gambling premises licence you will need to send the application form and supporting documents to us as the licensing authority. You must also give notice of your application to certain responsible authorities.
