Helping Low Income Families with Reduced Water Rates

Folkestone and Hythe District Council are working with Southern Water to identify and share the details of more than 5,000 residents on low incomes or in receipt of benefits who are eligible for a discount on their bills.

Southern Water will be contacting these residents to let them know that they will be moved to its cheaper “Essentials Tariff” payment scheme and will have their bills reduced by at least 45%.

This new data sharing agreement will allow the council to work with Southern Water to make sure people within the borough who need this support don’t miss out on these important discounts.

The partnership is subject to strict rules around personal data and security, and the information shared is solely for the purpose of benefiting eligible residents.
