Four of the council’s Independent Living schemes have guest rooms which tenants can hire for their visitors to stay in:
- Halliday Court, Hythe
- Nailbourne Court, Lyminge
- Romney Marsh House, Dymchurch
- Walmsley House, Folkestone
If you live in one of our Independent Living schemes and would like to hire the guest room, please talk to your Independent Living Officer (ILO) to check availability.
How much does it cost to hire the guest room?
The current charge from April 2026 is £38.70 per night.
How long can my visitor stay in the guest room?
The guest room is designed for short stays of a few days. In some circumstances, a longer visit may be possible subject to permission being given by your ILO.
Can my visitor bring a pet to stay in the guest room?
No, unfortunately we do not allow pets in our guest rooms.
Is linen provided in the guest room?
Yes, we provide bedding and towels. Please note that the tenant who made the guest room booking is responsible for washing and drying the linen.
Is there a bathroom in the guest room?
Some guest rooms have a bath or shower, but some only have a toilet and sink. Please speak to your ILO to find out what facilities the guest room in your scheme has.
Are there any cooking facilities in the guest room?
There are a kettle and mugs, but unfortunately there are no cooking facilities, except at Nailbourne Court where there is a microwave.
Is smoking or vaping allowed in the guest room?
No, we do not allow smoking or vaping in the guest room. If your guest wants to smoke or vape, please ensure they do so outside, away from the building.
What if the fire alarm sounds?
We operate a stay put policy, so if the fire alarm sounds, please stay in the guest room unless the fire is in the guest room. If the fire is in the guest room, please leave the room, close the door behind you, leave the building and call 999.
Is there a Lifeline in the guest room?
There is a Lifeline in all guest rooms except Halliday Court – please ensure that this is only used in an emergency.
What time does my guest need to leave on their last day?
Please vacate the guest room and return the key to your ILO by 10am, to allow us time to prepare the room for the next guest.
Please also note that if any items go missing from the guest room, the cost of replacing them will be charged to the tenant who made the booking.
