If you have a premises licence for the supply of alcohol you can apply for a permit to provide three or more Category C or D gaming machines for use at the premises.
If you want to provide only one or two machines, you may have an automatic entitlement to do so for which you should use the notification for use of up to two gaming machines process
If the premises is run as a club. You can apply for a club machine permit.
Before you start
A permit replaces and is not in addition to any automatic entitlement for up to two gaming machines.
The premises must have a licence authorising the sale of alcohol for consumption on the premises. It must have a bar at which alcohol is served without the requirement that it is accompanied with food.
The premises must not be used mainly for gaming or have a gambling premises licence in effect.
Applications must be made by the person or organisation that holds the alcohol licence.
How much does it cost?
- Application - £150.00
- Variation - £100.00
- Transfer - £25.00
There is a £50 annual fee payable to keep the permit valid. The first annual fee is due 30 days from the date of the permit being issued.
How long does a permit last?
Permits remain in effect so long as the premises licence to which it is linked remains valid.
If the premises licence is transferred to another person, they may apply to transfer the permit into their name.

What happens next?
A decision will be made whether to grant or refuse the permit.
A permit may be granted but with modifications to the numbers or category of machines permitted.
If we have concerns about your application, we will give you the opportunity to make representations.
If your application is granted we will send a paper copy of your permit. Permit holders must comply with the code of practice on gaming machines.
If the application is refused we will write to explain the reasons why and how you can appeal if you disagree with the decision.
