Folkestone pupils have risen to the challenge of creating Christmas greetings with a reminder about the importance of recycling during the festive period.
Young people from The Beacon School submitted imaginative and creative illustrations after they were invited to submit designs for the council’s Christmas card.
Five excellent artworks were chosen by council leader Cllr Jim Martin and chief executive Dr Susan Priest for a digital Christmas card which has been dropping into inboxes this week.
Cllr Martin said: “The designs were fabulous and it was a tough task to choose just five for our e-card. I was so impressed with their ideas and imagination around the recycling theme – the young people from The Beacon School have really done us proud.”
Earlier this week Cllr Martin thanked the five young designers and presented Celise (12), Brandon (13), Krystian (14), Benji (13) and Finley (12) (who was unavailable when the photograph was taken) with vouchers to spend at a local store.
Teacher Sarah Reeve explained: “Learners at The Beacon always rise to a challenge with enthusiasm, especially when it comes to designing Christmas cards! “They embraced the theme and we had lots of discussions about protecting our local community and the environment.
“I am very proud of the hard work of our talented young artists and the mature discussions we had about how we care for our planet. We would like to thank the council for involving our learners in the wider community outside of school; it is important for their development and gives them a sense of place in the community.”
