Hundreds of vulnerable children and young people in the district will receive a loving Christmas gift thanks to generous donations.

Nearly 145 presents from Folkestone & Hythe District Council staff and councillors and a large donation of vouchers from The Channel Rotary Club are being distributed as part of this year’s Wish Upon A Star appeal.

The campaign was first organised by former council housing advice and preventions officer Nicola Baker, who sadly died in 2018, and has been continued as a tribute to her magnificent efforts.

Cllr Mike Blakemore, Cabinet Member for Community and Collaboration, said: “For some of the recipients, this will be the only gift they receive this Christmas so it’s wonderful to see the generosity shown by staff, councillors and our community partners.

“It comes at a time when people are having to be more careful with their money so the number of gifts donated to some of the district’s most vulnerable children and young people is incredibly heart-warming.”

Kent County Council’s Early Help, Youth Offending, Adolescent Support and Children’s Social Services teams will be delivering the gifts in time for the big day.
