Several initiatives to help reduce the amount of litter around the district’s coastline are being launched.
Five new compactor bins in hotspot locations – as well as more litter crews, enhanced equipment and additional signage – will be in place ahead of the busy summer season.
The measures are part of the return of the successful #LoveYourBeach campaign by Folkestone & Hythe District Council, in conjunction with Dover District Council.
Following the positive impact of the first, a second e-bike collection vehicle will be deployed to help with the regular emptying of bins along the seaside promenade.
These electric-powered engines ensure zero emissions – making it an environmentally-friendly alternative that allows crews to access areas where larger vehicles cannot.
Working alongside the waste management and street cleansing contractor Veolia, the campaign aims to raise awareness of good beach etiquette across the Folkestone, Hythe and Romney Marsh coastline.
Cllr Jeremy Speakman, Cabinet Member for Waste, Street Cleansing and Corporate Health and Safety said: “We have some incredible coastal destinations across the entire district – with each of them deserving to be looked after.
“We will be doing our bit to help keep our beaches looking nice, but we need visitors and residents to join our efforts and help defend the environment, wildlife and our coastal waters against discarded litter.”
