More than 20 councils in the south-east have met with a government minister to discuss the performance of Southern Water.

The Southern Water Local Authority Stakeholder Group – of which Folkestone & Hythe District is a member – recently sat down with the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Water and Flooding, Emma Hardy MP, to express worries about the company.

Cabinet Member for Climate, Environment and Biodiversity – Cllr Stephen Scoffham – said: “I really appreciated the chance to highlight to the minister our concerns about water quality and infrastructure in and beyond our district.

“It’s good to know that Emma Hardy MP is taking an active interest in the work that needs to be done. She committed to finding out more about Southern Water’s investment plans and to working with the group with the aim of finding solutions.”

The Southern Water Local Authority Stakeholder Group was set up by Wealden District Council and its main objective is to hold Southern Water and its regulators to account.

Various meetings have taken place since the group’s inception – some of which have included special speakers from Southern Water, the Environment Agency and the Water Services Regulation Authority (OFWAT).
