An allocation of just under £180,000 from central government via the Rural England Prosperity Fund (REPF) has been granted to Folkestone & Hythe District Council.

This funding provides a one-year extension to the successful 2022-2025 Rural England Prosperity Funding (REPF), which previously supported 22 local business and community schemes.

The new funding has been earmarked to further improve productivity, connectivity and to boost prosperity across the district's rural areas.

Previous projects include a high-speed broadband network on Romney Marsh, a new village hall at St Mary in the Marsh and a cycle shelter in Elham.

The 2025-2026 REPF will be used to support activities specifically addressing the challenges rural areas face:

  • Businesses: Projects that will support jobs, business growth and resilience – this might include net zero infrastructure, diversification needs and start-up and expansion opportunities.
  • Communities: Ventures that will improve local facilities and amenities specifically aimed at enhancing physical, cultural and social ties.

Cllr James Butcher – Cabinet Member for Place Plan, Heritage, Tourism and District Economy – said: “Previous funding has already made a huge difference to local businesses and groups in rural parts of the district.

“I know this additional money will have a similar impact, so I would very much encourage those with ideas to apply as early as possible.”
