Protecting the future of Princes Parade

There will be no further activity on council-owned land at Princes Parade, it has been confirmed.

The subject of developing the 18-acre site between Seabrook and Hythe has dominated the local conversation for 15 years – across the district.

Following extensive public engagement, most recently at Hythe Town Hall last month, the leader of Folkestone & Hythe District Council is officially drawing a line in the sand.

Cllr Jim Martin said: “The overwhelming opinion of those who attended the events in July was a mirror reflection of the online consultation results.

“The majority want Princes Parade left as it is, maintained as an open space which supports biodiversity – that is a position this council will honour.

“We’ve all spent years talking about it but it’s now time to look forward. Suggestions of long-term protections for the site have been noted and will be looked at.”

The subject of swimming pool provision in the district will be covered in the council’s new leisure strategy, a document which is currently being prepared ahead of a public consultation.
