Green-fingered council tenants have been recognised for their excellent efforts in an annual gardening competition.

The event is run and managed by Strategic Tenant Advisory Panel members Gillian Jenkins and Sharon Gasson, both of whom also judge the event.

Despite the ever-changing weather conditions this year, blooming marvellous tenants and leaseholders in the district have braved the rain and heat to tend to their gardens.

The spectacular outdoor spaces submitted by Folkestone & Hythe District Council (F&HDC) tenants were visited in July and certificates and prizes were given to the winners earlier this month.

All winners were awarded a £100 voucher, and the runners-up in each category received a £50 voucher. A big thank you to sponsors Mears, Sureserve, Cleanscapes, Grovewell Garden Centre, Cllr Jim Martin, Cllr Rebecca Shoob and F&HDC’s grounds maintenance team.

Cllr Rebecca Shoob, Cabinet Member for Housing and Homelessness, said: “Judges were incredibly impressed by the standard of entries. I’d like to thank all tenants who took the time to enter this year’s garden competition.

“It is fantastic to see tenants nurturing their outdoor spaces, I am incredibly impressed with the hard work and dedication of the gardeners.”

The winners and runners-up are:

  • Joint winner best communal garden: Cheriton Wood House and Alexandra Court
  • Winner of the Keren Belcourt Award: Juliette Metcalf
  • Best front garden winner: Louise Long
  • Runner up best front garden: Julie Ward
  • Best back garden and winner of the Sue Willshire Cup: Dion Sessford
