Six new homes are to be provided by the council in the rural village of Lyminge as part of a pledge to create more affordable, energy efficient homes in the district.

The properties, built by Pentland Homes as part of the Fairways development, will be let to tenants on the housing list at affordable rents, in line with the council’s Allocations Policy.

The homes are being purchased by Folkestone & Hythe District Council under a section 106 planning agreement with developers, to ensure that new developments contribute to local infrastructure and community need.

The six new houses will have an EPC rating B – this will keep energy costs down for residents and support the authority’s carbon emission reduction strategy.

Cllr Rebecca Shoob, Cabinet Member for Housing and Homelessness, said: “This acquisition will provide much needed affordable homes for local people.

“It demonstrates the council’s continued focus on expanding our housing stock and ensuring tenants’ homes are future proofed for years to come.”

Paul Kitchingman, Managing Director of Pentland Homes added “As a locally founded and longstanding developer in the Folkestone area, a positive relationship with the council is hugely important to us.

“There are a number of challenges in delivering affordable homes on small sites and we are delighted to be working collaboratively with the council to ensure more new homes can be delivered across the district.”
