A £250,000 package of support for organisations to deliver sustainable and carbon reducing projects in the Folkestone & Hythe district has been agreed.
The new funding follows two previous district council Green Grant schemes. These have seen a wide range of schemes brought forward aimed at cutting carbon emissions, improving public spaces and creating long term benefits for the district’s communities.
This third round of funding welcomes applications for four categories of funding and bids have to be received by Friday 17 July.
Applications can be from businesses, community groups, schools, town and parish councils and the grant categories are:
Climate action micro grants – for up to £2000
Rewilding, tree planting and wildflower meadow grants – up to £10000
Social and community grants – up to £15000
Premises grants – up to £20000
Applications are made through the Folkestone Works website where there is more information about the categories and examples of the type of projects that could be supported
Cllr Stephen Scoffham said: “I am delighted that we are able to offer this funding again. It is so important that as a local authority we are able to support organisations and together we can reduce our carbon emissions as we work towards a net zero target.
“I believe that we have a leading role in responding to the climate crisis and this grant scheme has supported in previous years a wide range of projects including tree planting and habitat restoration that also bring such a benefit to open spaces for local communities.”
Grants are paid on completion of a project and incremental payment plans can be organised. To assist organisations with funding to start a project, the council’s Ward Budget scheme can be considered as each district councillor has £5000 to fund projects and events in their ward.
