Parking enforcement officers in the Folkestone & Hythe district are to be equipped with body worn cameras to help support evidence gathering and safety whilst they are working.
The council’s parking enforcement partner Marstons/NSL have advised that from Monday 1 June 2026, they will be issuing teams with body worn video devices. This is in line with safety standards across its various contracts, including other local authorities.
The cameras will not be used for parking enforcement purposes. The officer will only begin recording if they feel they are in a situation where it will support with their safety.
All recordings are encrypted and stored and processed securely – officers are not able to view or edit footage. Recordings are kept for a period of 45 days, unless there is a lawful requirement to keep them longer.
Cllr Polly Blakemore – Cabinet Member for Transport, Regulatory Services and Building Control – said: “Safety of officers on the ground is of the utmost importance – as well as the drivers and residents they interact with.
“This extra level of protection ensures that any evidence of violence or abuse towards our teams while they carry out their role is recorded and shared with the police.”
Further information on how the data will be managed can be found on NSL/Marston Holdings website.
