An exciting new era for the Lower Leas Coastal Park play area has begun.
The £750,000 refurbishment of the south east’s largest free adventure playground – which offers more equipment and inclusive elements than ever before – is now ready to be enjoyed by residents and visitors.
To celebrate the milestone, an official launch event is taking place on Tuesday 4 August. Free ice creams and goodie bags for the children will be available between 2pm and 4pm – there will also be filming and photography of the fun during the day.
Cllr Connor McConville, Cabinet Member for Assets and Local Government Reorganisation, said: “I’m nothing short of amazed at how good everything looks and I’m 100% sure the children of the district are going to give it a big thumbs up.
“The Lower Leas Coastal Park is the district’s flagship play area. Our investment – funded by developer levies (CIL and s106), grants and other council budgets – has really paid off and will delight the next generations.”
Following requests from residents during a public engagement phase, there is additional seating, enhanced accessibility, as well as buggy and cycle parking, for all families to use.
