Solar projects in the Folkestone & Hythe district

St Mary’s Road, Romney Marsh

Enviromena has submitted a planning application to the council for a solar farm with the capacity to produce 16 MW of power.

The company states this will produce enough clean, renewable energy to power about 10,600 homes every year.

Size

The proposal is for about 40 hectares (98.8 acres).

Consultation

The planning application was submitted in March 2025 and was open for comments until mid-May.

Decision-maker

Folkestone & Hythe District Council’s planning and licensing committee approved the application, with conditions, on Tuesday 20 January 2026.

Four speakers addressed the committee before the matter was fully considered by members and the meeting can be watched back online.
