Prior to completing your test
You will need to complete and pass an online English Screening Assessment before taking a knowledge test. You will need to bring your English Screening Assessment certificate to the Knowledge Test appointment. If you fail to bring the certificate to the appointment you will not be allowed to take the Knowledge Test.

Book and pay for your test
A driver applying for a private hire licence must take the Private Hire Knowledge Test, while a driver applying for a dual licence must take the Hackney Knowledge Test.
Private hire knowledge test duration:
- 1 hour (10am - 11am)
Hackney knowledge test duration:
- 2 1/2 hours (10am - 12.30pm)
To book your knowledge test you will need to:
- log into your MyAccount (or create an account if you don't already have one) to complete the form.
- select the test you want to take (Private Hire Knowledge Test or Hackney Knowledge Test)
- pay the £73.30 fee at the time of booking
Knowledge tests are held at the Civic Centre.
