Minor variation to a premises licence or club premises certificate

For a premises licence or club premises certificate.

This is a simplified alternative to the full variation process, for making minor changes to a licence. Please see our separate page if you want to change the Designated Premises Supervisor named on a licence.

What is a minor variation?

These are changes to the licence that could not adversely impact the licensing objectives. For example:

  • Minor changes to the structure or layout of the premises
  • The removal of out of date, unenforceable or irrelevant conditions
  • The addition of volunteered condition
  • Small adjustments to licensing hours
  • Removal of a licensable activity

The following changes are not minor variations and always require a full variation application:

  • Addition of sale by retail or supply of alcohol to a licence
  • Extension of licensing hours for the sale or supply of alcohol for consumption on or off the premises between the hours of 23.00 and 07.00
  • An increase in the amount of time on any day during which alcohol may be sold or supplied for consumption on or off the premises

What happens next?

We will consider any representations made and determine the licence within 15 working days of your application.

There is no hearing process and we can't impose our own conditions. If we consider that the application will adversely impact the licensing objectives, the application will be refused.

If an application is refused, a full variation application can be submitted instead which will be subject to the full consultation and hearing process.
