Renewable energy

Energy efficiency and renewable energy are at the heart of the district’s climate action, with a focus on upgrading homes, supporting local generation, and reducing fuel poverty. The council is supporting local businesses, organisations and community groups to shift from fossil fuels to renewable energy in multiple ways. Grants from the Green Business Grants scheme, the Rural England Prosperity Fund and Green Grants programme have enabled local groups, parishes and businesses to install solar panels to reduce their costs.

Solar Together

Solar Together is a group-buying scheme that makes solar panel installation more affordable for residents and businesses. The council promotes participation in Solar Together Kent, with strong uptake among local households. In 2025 there were 248 solar panels installed on homes with an estimated 23,495kg CO2e reduction over a year.

Rural England Prosperity Fund

In 2024 The Rural England Prosperity Fund supported rural communities and businesses to invest in infrastructure, skills, and green projects.

In 2025 The council secured a further £180,000 for the next phase.
