Want to move

If for any reason you find that your property is no longer suitable to your needs (too big/small, you need level access), or you wish to move, then to move you may want to consider the following:

Transfer

You can apply for a transfer to another Folkestone & Hythe Council property if:

  • You do not owe any rent or other charges
  • Your home is in good condition
  • You have lived in your present home for at least a year and are no longer on an Introductory Tenancy
  • You have not broken (breached) your tenancy agreement or been found guilty of unacceptable behaviour

To apply you must complete a transfer application on the Kent Home Choice website.

Mutual Exchange (Home Swapper)

You can swap your home with another tenant living in a council or housing association property anywhere in the country.

To apply to swap your home, both you and the person that you are looking to exchange with must complete a Mutual exchange application form. We will then let you know if your application has been successful.

Before you go ahead you must get the Council's approval in writing.

If the tenant that you are exchanging with is not a tenant of Folkestone & Hythe District Council they will need to contact their landlord to ask permission. Each landlord will check that:

  • No rent or other charges are owed
  • Your property is in good condition
  • You have lived in your present home for at least a year and are no longer on an Introductory Tenancy

Approval is given if all aspects of the exchange meet the criteria and as long as the other landlord is a social housing provider that allows mutual exchange. You can begin registering with Home Swapper to advertise your home to others. Please note - When registering, select 'Folkestone and Hythe' as your landlord.
