Let's stay fire safe

A fire can happen at any time but there are some simple things we can all do to stay fire safe – in our homes and communal areas.

This is why we’re working with the Kent Housing Group and other landlords in Kent, on the 'Lets Stay Fire Safe' campaign. Take a look at the list below to see some of things you can do to keep you and your loved ones safe:

  • having a working smoke detector, and testing it regularly
  • making sure you do not overload your electrical sockets
  • reading the fire safety advice for your electrical portable heaters
  • not leaving lit candles or cigarettes unattended
  • shutting fire doors and reporting damage to them straight away
  • keeping communal areas like corridors, halls and stairwells clear from clutter
  • not charging personal items in communal areas or storing them in communal cupboards
  •  not lighting open fires or BBQs in your home, balcony or communal gardens (without permission)
  • making sure you know what the fire escape plan is for your building.
