The Folkestone – A Brighter Future scheme is more than a third complete with works planned to finish in late 2026.

Any regeneration project of this scale will inevitably cause disruption, and we are grateful to residents and businesses for bearing with us as we shape Folkestone town centre into a safer, greener and more welcoming place to spend time. Full details of the scheme are available on our dedicated FABF pages where you can also sign up for a newsletter from our contractors Jackson Civil Engineering for monthly updates.

Below is a summary of the most recent project changes:

Station Road Approach/Radnor Park roundabout

Work will begin at Station Road approach from Monday 13 April and continue until July 2026. During this period it will be necessary to have four-way traffic lights at Radnor Park roundabout for safety.

During this period our contractor will finish the remaining work that needs to be done in the area including removing the zebra crossing beacons, breaking out the redundant islands and carrying out drainage and footway works. Work will also include improvements to cycle lands and the final surfacing of roads.

The works will first focus on Station Approach and then move to Radnor Park roundabout. These will be the final works needed to complete the Folkestone - A Brighter Future scheme in this area.

Shorncliffe Junction

The final set of overnight works will take place at Shorncliffe junction for a total of two nights between the hours of 8:30pm to 5am from 6 May - 8 May inclusive. During this time, anti-skid treatment will be installed to the roads to ensure the safety of all road users and pedestrians.

During the closure of Shorncliffe Road Junction, Westbound and Eastbound traffic will be diverted via Bouverie Road West and Castle Hill Avenue.

Connaught Road

The end of Connaught Road leading into Cheriton Road will be closed for two weeks from Monday 1 May to Monday 25 May so footway works can be carried out. While these works are taking place six parking spaces at the end of Connaught Road will be temporarily suspended to allow vehicles to use area as a turning place.

A vehicle diversion will be provided via Brockman Road and Guildhall Street North.

Temporary bus stop changes

The use of the temporary F1 and F2 bus stops will be discontinued from Monday 2 March and the nearby permanent stops for these routes used instead going forward.

The F6 bus stop has now been temporarily moved to directly outside Lidl and will remain at this stop until May 2026 while works are ongoing nearby.
