The Folkestone – A Brighter Future scheme is more than a third complete with works planned to finish in Summer 2026.
Any regeneration project of this scale will inevitably cause disruption, and we are grateful to residents and businesses for bearing with us as we shape Folkestone town centre into a safer, greener and more welcoming place to spend time. Full details of the scheme are available on our dedicated FABF pages where you can also sign up for a newsletter from our contractors Jackson Civil Engineering for monthly updates.
Below is a summary of the most recent project changes:
Middelburg West traffic management changes
Bouverie Road West, westbound and Cheriton Place will be closed from Monday 2nd of March until Friday 24th of April. This closure is necessary due to new drainage, road and footway works that are required to create a safer environment for pedestrians and road users.
A diversion will be in place via Cheriton Gardens, Shorncliffe Road, left at the roundabout down Castle Hill Avenue and then onto Sandgate Road.
Cheriton Place will be made two ways and vehicles will be able to enter and exit from Sandgate Road. As Cheriton Place is a narrow road, all parking bays will be temporarily suspended during this time.
Pedestrians will still be able to access Cheriton Place, travelling from Bouverie Road West towards the town centre.
Shellons Street overnight works
Overnight works will take place in Shellons Street on five consecutive nights from 9pm until 5am on Monday 9 March to Friday 13 March. The works will consist of new road surfacing, new road markings and installation of traffic signals. There will be a road diversion in place during this period and vehicles will be diverted via Foord Road, Radnor Park Road and then will need to turn left along Cheriton Road towards the town centre.
Vehicles will still be able travel from Middelburg East down towards Grace Hill roundabout during this time. Jackson Civil Engineering will endeavour to keep the noise level as low as possible during these late night hours. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your cooperation and understanding.
Shorncliffe Junction traffic management changes
The Shorncliffe junction is currently closed but between Friday 20 February until Monday 9 March the left-hand turn on Shorncliffe Junction for vehicles travelling along Cheriton Gardens will be reopened. The right-hand turn will remain closed but a diversion will be in place and vehicles will be able to turn left up Shorncliffe Road and use the roundabout to travel back East towards Cheriton Road.
Temporary bus stop changes
The F6 bus stop has now been temporarily moved to directly outside Lidl and will remain at this stop until May 2026 while works are ongoing nearby.
