The Folkestone – A Brighter Future scheme is more than a third complete with works planned to finish in late 2026.

Any regeneration project of this scale will inevitably cause disruption, and we are grateful to residents and businesses for bearing with us as we shape Folkestone town centre into a safer, greener and more welcoming place to spend time. Full details of the scheme are available on our dedicated FABF pages where you can also sign up for a newsletter from our contractors Jackson Civil Engineering for monthly updates.

Below is a summary of the most recent project changes:

Station Road Approach/Radnor Park roundabout

Work will begin at Station Road approach from Monday 13 April and continue until July 2026. During this period it will be necessary to have four-way traffic lights at Radnor Park roundabout for safety.

During this period our contractor will finish the remaining work that needs to be done in the area including removing the zebra crossing beacons, breaking out the redundant islands and carrying out drainage and footway works. Work will also include improvements to cycle lands and the final surfacing of roads.

The works will first focus on Station Approach and then move to Radnor Park roundabout. These will be the final works needed to complete the Folkestone - A Brighter Future scheme in this area.

Middelburg West traffic management changes

Bouverie Road West, westbound and Cheriton Place will be closed from Monday 2 March until Friday 24 April. This closure is necessary due to new drainage, road and footway works that are required to create a safer environment for pedestrians and road users.

A diversion will be in place via Cheriton Gardens, Shorncliffe Road, left at the roundabout down Castle Hill Avenue and then onto Sandgate Road.

Cheriton Place will be made two ways and vehicles will be able to enter and exit from Sandgate Road. As Cheriton Place is a narrow road, all parking bays will be temporarily suspended during this time.

Pedestrians will still be able to access Cheriton Place, travelling from Bouverie Road West towards the town centre.

Shorncliffe Junction

The Shorncliffe Road junction (Manor Road, Cheriton Gardens and Cheriton Road) will be closed to vehicles between 8.30pm and 5am for a total of seven working days, starting on Monday 20 April, to enable surfacing of roads (including an anti-skid treatment to create a safer environment for road users and pedestrians).

Traffic will be diverted via Bouverie Road and Castle Hill Avenue between these times. Pedestrians will be unaffected, although temporary crossings will need to be relocated to ensure public safety.

Temporary bus stop changes

The use of the temporary F1 and F2 bus stops will be discontinued from Monday 2 March and the nearby permanent stops for these routes used instead going forward.

The F6 bus stop has now been temporarily moved to directly outside Lidl and will remain at this stop until May 2026 while works are ongoing nearby.
