The Folkestone – A Brighter Future scheme is more than a third complete with works planned to finish in late 2026.

Any regeneration project of this scale will inevitably cause disruption, and we are grateful to residents and businesses for bearing with us as we shape Folkestone town centre into a safer, greener and more welcoming place to spend time. Full details of the scheme are available on our dedicated FABF pages where you can also sign up for a newsletter from our contractors Jackson Civil Engineering for monthly updates.

Below is a summary of the most recent project changes:

Station Road Approach/Radnor Park roundabout

Work will begin at Station Road approach from Monday 13 April and continue until July 2026. During this period it will be necessary to have four-way traffic lights at Radnor Park roundabout for safety.

During this period our contractor will finish the remaining work that needs to be done in the area including removing the zebra crossing beacons, breaking out the redundant islands and carrying out drainage and footway works. Work will also include improvements to cycle lands and the final surfacing of roads.

The works will first focus on Station Approach and then move to Radnor Park roundabout.

Middelburg East and Shellons Street

Works will take place overnight at Middelburg Square East and Shellons Street between 22:00 and 05:00 from Monday 29 June for six consecutive nights finishing on the morning of Sunday 5 July.

This will involve weeknight closures to the full loop of Middelburg Square, end of Cheriton Road, Foresters Way and Shellons Street. Access to Bouverie Road West and Cheriton gardens will be maintained and access will also be provided to those exiting Asda.

During this time, our contractors will be resurfacing Middelburg Square East, surfacing the remainder of Shellons Street and constructing a raised tabletop crossing at Gloucester Drive. Information about changes to bus schedules as a result of these works will be made available on the Folkestone updates page on the Stagecoach website

Victoria Grove closure

Victoria Grove will be closed from Monday 15 June until Friday 26 June. During this time our contractor will be resurfacing footways, surfacing and realigning tabletop crossings, similar to the works which have recently taken place at Coolinge and Connaught Road.

While these works are taking place six parking spaces at the end of Victoria Grove will be temporarily suspended to allow vehicles to use area as a turning place. A vehicle diversion will also be provided via Middelburg Square, Cheriton Gardens, Shorncliffe Rd, Castle Hill Avenue, Radnor Park Rd, Bournemouth Rd, and Guildhall Street North.

Station Approach

Further works will take place in the daytime between Monday 29 June and Wednesday 29 July at Station Approach.

A traffic management system will be put in place which will necessitate the movement of the bus stop to the nearby taxi rank layby (approx. 80m south by Kingsnorth Gardens). This taxi rank will be suspended during this time and the taxi companies have been informed.

Stagecoach have also been informed of this necessary temporary change and have agreed to implement comms to their passengers.

Bus stop changes

Middleburg Square, Folkestone will be closed from 10pm-5am each night between Wednesday 29 June and Friday 3 July for resurfacing. All services will be operating via Castle Hill Avenue and Sandgate Road to get to Bouverie Road West.

The following services will be using the bus stop at Sainsburys on Bouverie Road West;

  • 71 to Cheriton, departures are at 10.12pm, 10.42pm & 11.12pm
  • 16 to Canterbury departures are at 10.13pm & 11.13pm
  • 105 to Dover departures are at 11.45pm & 12.05am
