Work to support residents who were evacuated following the fire at the Grand Burstin Hotel in Folkestone is continuing.
Structural specialists are carrying out an investigation into the structure of the building following the major incident on Saturday morning.
Pavilion Court
All tenants living in the neighbouring Pavilion Court flats have been relocated to alternative accommodation and have been contacted by Folkestone & Hythe District Council’s housing team and provided with welfare support.
An emergency prohibition notice has been issued today (21 September) instructing people not to enter the buildings due to safety concerns. It is displayed on doors and security fencing around the Pavilion Court site.
The Grand Burstin is also behind the perimeter; both sites are being patrolled by security teams.
Diversions
As a result, there are road closures and diversions in place. Motorists and pedestrians are urged to follow local diversion signage.
C1 parking permit holders can temporarily use the Tram Road car park while these restrictions are in place.
Local businesses
Most local businesses are operating as usual, but customers are advised to contact them directly for information.
Community effort
Council chief executive Susan Priest said: “There has been a huge amount of work carried out since the early hours of Saturday, through Sunday and today.
“Our emergency services, partners and council staff have been a real credit to themselves in what are exceptionally difficult circumstances.
“My thanks go to hotel customers and Pavilion Court residents who have expressed their thanks and been truly touched by the generosity of my council colleagues and our community partners.”
