The Blue Badge scheme.

The Blue Badge scheme allows disabled and registered blind people to park closer to shops and amenities in areas where parking is restricted. Blue Badge holders can be either drivers or passengers.

Displaying your Blue Badge

You must always display your Blue Badge on your car dashboard

If you are parking in car park using disabled parking bay or time-limited parking bay, or parking on double yellow line, you must also display your time clock. If you don't, you may get  penalty charge notice (PCN).

Where you can park

Blue Badge lets you park free of charge on-street for up to 24 hours in any of these types of parking bay (they do not have to be specifically marked for disabled parking):

  • Permit-holder parking bays for residents
  • Pay-and-display bays
  • Free time-limited waiting bays
  • Shared-use bays (both permit holder and pay and display)

You can park free of charge for up to three hours:

  • In Folkestone & Hythe District Council car parks
  • In disabled parking bays in Sandgate Road and Bouverie Place in Folkestone
  • On single or double yellow lines (as long as you are not causing an obstruction)

Blue Badge holders must not park:  

  • In loading bays
  • In taxi ranks
  • In emergency vehicle bays
  • In bus stop clearways
  • In bus parking places
  • In areas where loading and unloading is prohibited
  • On double white lines in the centre of the road
  • At junctions or bus stops
