Beaches

All visitors and local residents who come to our beaches are reminded to act responsibly. This includes respecting dog restrictions, cleaning up after your dog on beaches where they are allowed during the summer, and taking all your rubbish away with you at the end of your visit.

From 1 May to 30 September each year, our beaches are designated as dog-free zones to ensure that everyone can enjoy the seaside while also helping to maintain water quality.

We kindly ask dog owners to respect these seasonal restrictions and make use of the many other dog-friendly areas our district offers. Failure to comply with these reasonable rules could result in penalties of up to £1,000.

Join the thousands of responsible dog owners who help keep our waters safe by always bagging dog waste and disposing of it properly. Remember, bagged dog waste can also be placed in regular litter bins.

If you’d like to check where the restrictions apply, you can find the information on our website or by

No waste should be left on the beach or anywhere else in the Folkestone and Hythe district. After your day at the beach, you should remove all waste and dispose of it correctly.

If there is no bin nearby, or if the bin is already full, please try the next available bin or simply take your waste home with you. Unfortunately, waste is often left either on the beach or on the promenades. This is considered littering or fly-tipping, depending on the amount left behind.

Leaving waste not only encourages others to do the same, but also attracts seagulls and other wildlife, resulting in rubbish being scattered over a wider area. This significantly increases the time it takes for our waste teams to clean up.#loveyourbeach

Events

Members of the team will be holding events across the district in the coming months and will be present at the Trawler Race.

Some of these Love Your Beach events will be promoting the Love Your Beach message. Folkestone & Hythe District Council is working in many ways to keep our beach areas clean, but we need residents and visitors to do the same. Together, we can help protect our environment, wildlife, and coastal waters from discarded litter.
