Information you need to provide with your application

After passing the knowledge test you will need to provide the following when you complete your application:

Attach any evidence as uploads on your application.

1. Photograph

The photograph you provide will be used on your official taxi driver licence badge.

Follow the photo requirements as closely as possible.

2. UK or EU/EEA driving licence and DVLA check

You must have held a full UK driving licence for a minimum of 12 months. Clear photos or scans of both sides of your licence must be attached to your application.

 As part of the taxi and private hire licensing process, licensing authorities carry out a DVLA check to confirm that an applicant holds a valid driving licence and meets the required standards to drive professionally. You will need to provide the DVLA check code in your application.

3. Medical form

To ensure the safety of passengers and other road users, anyone applying for a taxi or private hire driver licence must undergo a medical examination. This form will have been sent to you in your application pack or you can download and print it.

4. Driver assessment course

Taxi or private hire driver licence applicants are required to complete a 'Driver Assessment Course'. This course ensures that drivers meet the necessary standards to provide a safe, professional, and comfortable service to passengers.

5. Safeguarding course

As part of the taxi and private hire licensing process, drivers are required to complete a Safeguarding Awareness Course.

6. Right to work

A Right to Work Check is a legal requirement for all Local Authority Licensing teams. It ensures that anyone they give a licence to is legally allowed to work in the UK, regardless of their nationality.

7. Enhanced DBS check

An Enhanced DBS Check is a detailed background check carried out by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

After you pass the knowledge test you will receive an email from us with a DBS check link and information on how to get your DBS check. You must also subscribe to the DBS update service as part of your application.
