Council housing tenant consultation on ‘de-pooling’ service charges
Tenants living in our blocks or schemes, pay what is known as a service charge in addition to their rent. Service charges are required to meet the cost of facilities such as grounds maintenance, communal area heating, and cleaning.
Currently, tenants pay a flat rate for their service charge, regardless of the actual services they receive. The council is looking at a revised system of charging for the individual services each block, or scheme receives - a process known as ‘de-pooling’ - which will be a fairer way of apportioning out charges for all tenants.
